Sunday, June 24th, 2012: Media analysts hailed Oakland's signing of Michael Wuertz, one of Major League's brightest stars, as a pivotal move.
While the deal is certain to raise a few eyebrows, Wuertz is expected to earn every bit of the $22,320,000 promised him over 3 years.
This year his season stats show Wuertz has 7 saves in 32 relief appearances with a 3-0 record and 1.38 ERA. |
 | Desmond Tags Athletics for 5 Hits
Saturday, June 23rd, 2012: Washington second baseman Ian Desmond banged out 5 hits today, but it was not enough to keep his club from succumbing to the Athletics 6-5. He went 5-for-8 and raised his batting average a few points.
Despite the loss, Desmond was not dismayed: "If the hits keep coming," he said, "so will the runs -- and more importantly -- so will the wins."
Ian Desmond flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, was hit by a pitch in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, singled in the 10th, flied out in the 12th, grounded out in the 15th, singled in the 17th and doubled in the 19th.
Thus far this year Desmond is batting .282 with 11 home runs, 40 RBIs and 34 runs scored. |
 | Cardinals CF Rasmus Out
Saturday, June 23rd, 2012: The St. Louis Cardinals will lose the services of center fielder Colby Rasmus after he sustained a fractured thumb while making a defensive play in today's game against the San Francisco Giants. "I'll get through it," Rasmus said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for 4 weeks.
Rasmus is currently hitting at a .344 pace with 18 home runs, 50 RBIs and has scored 53 times. |
