Monday 6/11/2015: Pena (TOR) and Young (NYN) win P.O.W. award
Toronto's rightfielder Wily Mo Pena had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Wily Mo was on fire, hitting .385 with 3 HR and 10 RBI. His season numbers are: .337 AVG, 30 hits, 4 doubles, no triples and 6 bombs, along with 29 RBI and 19 runs scored. Delmon Young from New York (N) wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 24 at bats he hit .458 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Young has walked 12 times this year and posts a .319 OBP. While batting .262, 49 for 187, he has driven in 19 runs.
 
Sunday 6/10/2015: Raul Rodriguez (TEX) will miss 5 weeks
TEXAS - Texas is without its left-hander Raul Rodriguez for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Yuniesky Betancourt in a game against Pittsburgh. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Bicep Tendon which will require surgery. Opposing players hit .289 against Raul this season. While posting an ERA of 5.10 he went 3-2 in 0 starts, fanning 38 and walking 23 hitters. He's 7th in the American League in saves!
 
Sunday 6/10/2015: Kris Medlan out for 4 weeks
ATLANTA - Atlanta's pitcher Kris Medlan was part of a scary incident that saw the right-hander being hit by a line drive in the 8th inning of the game between Atlanta and Kansas City. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Medlan will miss about 4 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Fractured Jaw. In 15 starts this year Kris struck out 86 batters in 93 innings of work. His ERA is 1.94, his record 7-1. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 8th in wins!
 
Saturday 6/9/2015: Atlanta's James out for 4-5 weeks
ATLANTA - Atlanta is without its lefty Chuck James for at least 4-5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Kurt Suzuki in a game against Kansas City. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. This season James compiled an ERA of 3.86, going 2-0 in 4 starts. He fanned 17 while giving up 26 hits in 30.1 innings.
 
Friday 6/8/2015: Erik Bedard (CIN) will miss 5 weeks
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's southpaw Erik Bedard suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 8th of the game against Toronto he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Bedard was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. Opposing players hit .231 against Erik this season. While posting an ERA of 4.42 he went 3-2 in 13 starts, fanning 64 and walking 30 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout.
 
Thursday 6/7/2015: Aaron Bacon out for 5-6 weeks
ARIZONA - Arizona's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, shortstop Aaron Bacon, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 5-6 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Bacon was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Groin Muscle. Aaron is hitting .243 this year, with 58 hits in 239 at bats. He has driven in 34 runs, slugging .427.
 
Wednesday 6/6/2015: Cameron Maybin (FLO) will miss 6 weeks
FLORIDA - Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto drilled Florida's centerfielder Cameron Maybin in the 1st inning. He was slow getting up and had to leave the game. Cameron Maybin will miss at least 6 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Fractured Hand which will require surgery. His season features a batting average of .259 (59 hits in 228 AB), 10 doubles, 4 triples and 5 taters. Maybin collected 25 RBI and 42 runs as well.
 
Monday 6/4/2015: Bauer and Bowker win Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Jack Bauer, New York (A)'s starting leftfielder. Jack was on fire, hitting .379 with 4 HR and 13 RBI. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Pittsburgh's John Bowker this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. In 28 at bats he hit .571 with 2 HR and 13 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .335, John hit .271 and slugged .458. He has collected 32 runs batted in this year.
 
Friday 6/1/2015: Miguel Montero clubs five hits in a game
PITTSBURGH - Miguel Montero led Pittsburgh to a 22-1 win over Washington by squeezing five hits out of his bat. Number 2 in the 4th inning, a shot estimated at 384 feet, cleared the wall in left field. His 3rd hit was a RBI double off Dennis Massengill in the 6th inning. Number 4 in the 7th inning accounted for a two-run double. In the 8th inning he belted a double off David Moore. He had a single in the 3rd, driving in one run. Miguel did drive in 7 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .318.
 
Friday 6/1/2015: Schuelke and Morales receive Pitcher of the Month award
Michael Schuelke pitched like a legend in May, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He went 6-0 in May and finished the month with an ERA of 3.89. He struck out 26 in 44 innings. Michael pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .241 against Michael this season. While posting an ERA of 3.78 he went 6-3 in 12 starts, fanning 61 and walking 14 hitters. Michael has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games. Colorado's pitcher Franklin Morales is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in May. He went 6-0 in May and finished the month with an ERA of 1.72. He struck out 40 in 47 innings. Opposing players hit .221 against Franklin this season. While posting an ERA of 3.14 he went 8-3 in 12 starts, fanning 63 and walking 26 hitters. He's 2nd in the National League in wins!
 
Friday 6/1/2015: Bauer (NYY) and Kersh (SFN) win monthly award
The American League Batter of the Month award goes to Jack Bauer, New York (A)'s starting leftfielder. Bauer helped his team with an average of .406 and 34 RBI in 106 at bats. Jack is hitting .419 this year, with 85 hits in 203 at bats. He has driven in 62 runs, slugging .788. He's 1st in the American League in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 1st in RBI! The National League's best player of the month was San Francisco's Jeffrey Kersh, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 95 at bats he hit .442 with 6 HR and 25 RBI. Kersh has hit 11 taters this year while batting .380. He adds 13 doubles, along with 44 runs scored. He's 1st in the National League in batting and 2nd in RBI!
 
Wednesday 5/30/2015: Washington has no chance in a 2-hitter by Francisco Liriano
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s lefty Francisco Liriano is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Washington on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. Rico Alvarez spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with no outs in the 5th inning. Liriano (2-2) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 7. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' The hitting star for Chicago (N) was leftfielder Kurby Puckett, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, homering once, doubling once, scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 runs. Chicago (N) improved its record to 16-37, scoring 4 runs on 8 hits.
 
Tuesday 5/29/2015: Carl Mays shuts out Minnesota on 2 hits
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's right-hander Carl Mays is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Minnesota on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 31st time he has done it in his career. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Mays (8-1) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 1, throwing 112 pitches. Victor Martinez provided Cleveland with the offense Mays needed as he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, stroking a double. Cleveland scored 5 runs on 6 hits.
 
Monday 5/28/2015: New York (A)'s Jack Bauer gets the cycle
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s leftfielder Jack Bauer accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Toronto, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .318! In the 1st inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Andrea Cline. A single in the 2nd off Derek Hanning accounted for his 2nd hit. A pitch from Henry Johnson in the 4th inning left his bat for a RBI double. A RBI triple off Henry Johnson in the 6th inning, accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Jack scored one run, and he collected 5 RBI as well! He's having a very good season so far, batting .424. 33 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Jack. On 5/6/2015, Michael Napoli was the last player to hit for the cycle.
 
Monday 5/28/2015: Player of the Week honors go to Bauer and Kersh
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to New York (A)'s Jack Bauer this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Jack was on fire, hitting .462 with 2 HR and 11 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Jeffrey Kersh, San Francisco's starting leftfielder. Kersh helped his team with an average of .550 and 7 RBI in 20 at bats. Jeffrey has gone 66 for 176 (.375) this season, hitting 10 taters and driving in 42 runs. He has scored 42 runs on his own. He's 1st in the National League in batting, 7th in homeruns and 1st in RBI!
 
Saturday 5/26/2015: Milwaukee's Hart out for the season
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's rightfielder Corey Hart will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Milwaukee and Cincinnati. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Hart collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. Milwaukee wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Hart had suffered a Torn Hamstring Muscle. While compiling an on base percentage of .358, Corey hit .248 and slugged .544. He has collected 28 runs batted in this year.
 
Saturday 5/26/2015: Colorado's Fowler severely injured, out for season
COLORADO - Colorado's centerfielder Dexter Fowler will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Colorado and Houston. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Fowler collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Back Muscle. He has hit 6 longballs while batting .308 this season. His 64 hits and 12 walks add up to a .339 on-base percentage.
 
Tuesday 5/22/2015: Willie Savino (CHN) will miss 4 weeks
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s season has taken a hit after one of their best players, second baseman Willie Savino, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 4 weeks. Savino was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Hamstring Muscle. His season features a batting average of .253 (38 hits in 150 AB), 6 doubles, one triple and 2 taters. Savino collected 12 RBI and 17 runs as well.
 
Monday 5/21/2015: Daric Barton (COL) will miss 4 weeks
COLORADO - Colorado's first baseman Daric Barton will miss about 4 weeks after being knocked unconscious in a collision at home plate, in the 8th inning of the game between Colorado and San Diego. He was helped off the field after the incident. Barton will miss at least 4 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Finger. Surgery will be performed next week. Barton has hit 5 bombs this year while batting .278. He adds 10 doubles, along with 23 runs scored.
